Guys I am considering using a MacBook Pro and an external hard drive to archive my cds. I have heard of problems with macbook wireless and SB3 wireless, that the 2x transmitting degrades the audio.

What is the best setup to get very good sound quality through some Magnepans and yet still keep some of the wireless and portability functions?

You shouldn't have any issues running a server on a wireless computer, as long as everything has good wireless reception and you don't mind turning your laptop into an always-on server.

The issue is not that going twice through the airwaves will degrade the audio quality... the issue is that it increases the risk of having bandwidth or interference problems. As Andy says, if you have good signal strength then you will get perfect transmission to the SB. If not, you may get some very obvious breakup. Try it - you will be able to tell if its working or not!
