View Full Version : Move SlimServer to another PC?
Wireless SB3 on network works fine from the PC where SlimServer was first installed. I can't get it SlimServer to run from another PC though.
Both Slimserver installs are the same version, 6.2.
Even if I unplug the SB3, turn off the old PC, then startup the new PC, SB3 and Slimserver do not find each other. ???
I just ran the experiment again. Turned everything off, including the router. Turned on the router, the new PC (started Slimserver), then powered on SB3. SB3 gets IP ok, but then fails to connect to Slimserver with a text message on the panel "Can't connect to Slimserver".
Slimserver icon on my Windows screen just blinks, and never lets me open the browser interface.
I think that I had that problem once, the blinking and no starting that is. Try installing SlimServer again, don't uninstall first. I recommend the current 6.2.2, its a great vintage.
Have you gone through the setup procedure again? I think that once the SB has found a computer with a SlimServer on it, it remember the address of that machine until the SB is asked to look for another machine.
I have a vague idea that if it has been given various addresses in the past, it will store them so that you can make a direct choice during setup, but I am not sure of this.

Please check the firewall on that second pc. You'll have to open some
ports to let the players connect.

Windows firewall is off, and I turned off Norton Antivirus "internet worm protection" (which was on). I don't see anything else that could block the needed ports.
Behavior stays the same -- Slimserver refuses to start.
I also went back to SB3 initialization, walking it throught the setup steps, and gave it the IP of the new PC. It still can't connect to Slimserver, presumably since Slimserver can't start on the PC.
Does Slimserver keep a log of events somewhere? Perhaps there is another way to diagnose it?
Dunno if I should have taken the earlier advice to go to 6.2.2 before, but that seems to have turned things on. I had already reinstalled 6.2.1, so maybe this is one of the bugs fixed between 6.2.1 and 6.2.2.
BTW the ports discussion was useful. It made be go to www.grc.com and run the security test again, to reassure myself that the Linksys router had pretty much sealed off my PCs from nefarious users.
Thanks for everyone's help...
