View Full Version : Any Bruckner fans out there?
A friend of mine recently introduced me to the symphonies of Anton Bruckner, and I have been quite impressed. I particularly like the Naxos Georg Tintner cd's: great performances and great sound - #8 is especially good. There's also a great version of #7 on Teldec, with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, a very nice recording.
Anyone have any recommendations for other great Bruckner recordings out there?
Chris
I only have one Bruckner album - Bruckner's Symphony # 4 (Romantic) by the Vienna Philharmonic - the late Karl Bohm conducting, on London/Decca. It's an older recording - 1973, so there's a bit of hiss, but it's a stirring performance nonetheless. I threw it on the SB3 while I typed this - the beauty of having all music digitized and ready to play.
Anyone have any recommendations for other great Bruckner recordings out there?

I've had these CDs for years now, and always thought they were good:
#4 Chicago Symphony Orchestra / Sir George Solti (Decca 1983)
#7 Radio Symphonie Orchester Berlin / Riccardo Chailly (Decca 1985)
#8 Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam / Bernard Haitink (Philips 1981)
#9 Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam / Bernard Haitink (Philips 1981)
Adam.
My Gramophone Good CD Guide especially recommends:
No 3: Michael Gielen / South West German Radio Symphony Orch (1999)
No 4: Gunter Wand / Berlin Phil (1997)
No 4: Karl Bohm / Vienna Phil (1973)
No 5: Guiseppe Sinopoli / Staastskapelle Dresden
No 8: Karajan / Vienna Phil (1988)
No 8: Gunter Wand / Berlin Phil (2001)
