View Full Version : SlimServer Startup the first time...

I'm going to make an assumption that it takes a LONG time for SlimServer to start up the first time if you are in possesion of a large (>57GB) music directory? I installed the software, and it's been sitting in my system tray (WinXP SP2) for the last 30 minutes flasing and stating it's "SlimServer Starting".
I'm hoping that it finally comes up. When it does, can I expect this sort of startup each time, or does it happen faster on subsequent reboots?
btw... I'm using iTunes, and I accepted all defaults on installation.
Thanks.

It did that to me on the first start-up. It will never come out of that mode. Shut slimserver down, and uninstall it, then reinstall it and it will work fine.

Thanks. I uninstalled, and reinstalled, and it did come up right away. Strange...but true...

Does SlimServer has an "uninstall" or do you just have to drag it into the trash?
Thanks,
Michael

You never want to do that with windoze. Open the control panel, click the add/remove programs icon, then locate the slimserver software. Click it to remove it.
Doing it this way supposedly keeps the windoze registry from getting gunked up with leftovers from software you installed and deleted.

Ouaw, I am happy to read this !
I installed Slimserver on one computer and it worked fine. Now, on the other one, I had the SlimTray blinking for hours. Apparently, the Slim.exe did not start. I started Slim directly but it stopped while scanning the Music folder. I was just about to uninstall when I read this.
This should really be in the FAQs !!!!

This should really be in the FAQs !!!!
Except .... it's a bug no one seems to be able to reproduce reliably and fix.
