I want to use Squeezebox wirelessly with a Mac G5. The Mac is already connected to a wired 1000baseT network so can I just ad an AirPort Extreme card to my Mac? is that sufficient to allow Squeezebox to communicate? or do I need to add a wireless bridge to the network?

Either would work but I would recommend adding a bridge rather than
setting up an ad hoc network between your Macand the SB.

If a man speaks in a forest,
and his wife's not there,
is he still wrong?

The minimum you'll need is a network cable - which is delivered with the
SB :-). Just connect it to the switch and the SB and you're done.
If you want to go wireless, connect an access point to the switch.
Adding a card to your Mac would work, but it limited the wireless
network to those two devices.
