View Full Version : Latest daily builds and WMA/MMS problem
I've installed the latest build of 6.2 - from 9/11 including firmware update 21 in order to test the mms support for WMA etc.
I'm trying to play any of the streams from http://www.radio3net.ro/index.php?cx=best500 .
These are all mms:// protocol and I think are all wma as well. They play fine from windows media player btw.
If I use the tune in internet radio function from the web interface all I get is silence - which is better than what I got with fw 19 which was that slimserver just crashed.
I did try manually setting up a playlist as well but I just get playlist empty (I may have done this wrong however.)
Should I be able to play these streams yet or is that not yet possible.
Thanks a lot.
I have had my squeezebox for a week or so now and love it.
I tried to tune into a local radio station
mms://18.104.22.168/rnz-natrad and it was working.
I saved this as a playlist having established the computer that is to be the central slim server and the radio station does not connect.
The remote stops working can't goback to other instructions and hangs diplaying the name of the station but with no sound.
The web interface continues to work but the Squeeze box freezes with the radio station displayed. The Issue is resolved only by powering down and avoiding that radio stream. This is our nationa radio so would be nice to be able to play it.
So has anyone given this a try yet?
It may well work but OK and it might just be my inexperience but I'd appreciate a second opinion.
Thanks a lot,
I'm not sure it answers your question, but I've not had any success with the 2 mms: stations I've tried.
Thanks for posting the URLs of WMA streaming stations that you've had
issues with. The good news is that most of them should work with the
current SVN or the next nightly build and firmware 21. They do not yet
work with SqueezeNetwork, but this will change at some point in the
future when we update the network. Here are moredetails:
mms://22.214.171.124/rmffm - Works with latest build
mms://stream.polskieradio.pl/Program 3 - You will need to escape the
URL first before entering it into the Tune In form - try
mms://wm4.abacast.com/talksport - Works with the latest build
- The station uses the WMA Voice codec, which we don't yet support. I'll
post more information about the codec when I have more information.
mms://ms2.capitalinteractive.co.uk/xfm_high - Works with the latest
http://www.streamaudio.com/stations/asx/kfog_fm.asx - Works with the
http://ccri.eonstreams.com/ccri_mn_minneapolis_ktcz_fm.asf - Works
with the latest build, though the station was unavailable for a day or
so this weekend.
http://www.radio3net.ro/index.php?cx=best500 - These seem to be the
first I've seen that don't support HTTP access. As I mentioned earlier,
most Windows Media streaming servers allows multi-protocol access (MMS,
RTSP, HTTP) and we're taking advantage of the latter. I'll post more
information when I have it, but I'd encourage you to ask the provider to
turn on HTTP streaming through the Windows Media Server (see
mms://126.96.36.199/rnz-natrad - Works consistently with the latest
build. Let me know if you have a consistent way of recreating the crash
Thanks very much, vidurapparao. I've not had luck with fw 21 and the 9-12 build; I'm hoping you mean the 9-13 build.
Not to jump on the bandwagon, but I am in the same boat. This worked *once* and I can't get it to go again.
And I tried 6.1.2 on WinXP and also the following builds:
SlimServer Version: 6.2b1 - 4235 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252
SlimServer Version: 6.2b1 - 4241 - freebsd - EN - iso-8859-1
I will also try it on my Mac tomorrow and report back.
EDIT: I should also report that my unit isn't doing the dimming as others reported. I simply get dead air.

Just to be clear (which I wasn't before) the Xfm stream was working
right from the first change, when started correctly.
Excellent work by the way - I bought my SB2 just days before this was
announced (because the IR issues were fixed & the dabs sale) and this
just makes it even better (or will when WMA streaming can be done from

Hi, Can you and tortio post exactly _how_ you are opening up the
stations? Vidur's tracking down a bug in SlimServer's DBI code right
now that has to do with some ASF stations...

I'm really sorry ... I was trying to play via SqueezeNetwork. When I played by pasting URL into Radio Tune In, it worked.
Again ... I'm sorry.
No problem. The WMA streaming changes will make it in SqueezeNetwork at
some point in the near future. Stay tuned...so to speak. :-)

Thanks for helping with this. Let me give a little background.
The link that is actually posting on the stations website is:
If I go:
Slimserver -> Internet Radio -> Radio URL and paste that in there,
and click "Tune In"
JazzRadio.Net appears in the now playing and mms://stream.green.ch/jazzradio shows up as the URL/Playlist.
Now, I also happened to notice on my FreeBSD box that I get this in the logs trying out URL:
2005-09-12 22:02:13.4684 Couldn't fetch object for URL: - skipping track

I do not get any other log entries trying to play other streaming media. I did not save the logs on WinXP but will post them when I get chance, (I completely forgot about the logs).
Later, I will try the other URL's posted in this thread and report back if those work.
Thanks again for the help.
On the WinXP build, I tried to go to
And "Play" is highlighted above. But I get this in my logs:
2005-09-13 23:19:34.2502 Couldn't fetch object for URL: - skipping track

Lights are flashing on my switch, indicating some traffic, but no sound what so ever.
Please let me know if you need more info. I'm new to this so please let me know if there is anything else I can be doing to help.
Please give the nightly build from last night a try. There was a bug
in the database that was causing problems with Tune In that was fixed
and should address this issue.

I'm trying to get the following station to work but it won't play any audio on the Slim Device. I'm currently running the build from 10-12-2005 (build 24).
But the following one listed in the tread does work just fine.
Plus XFM works just fine. Any help would be great.
i don't seem to be able to play any streaming radio through my SqueezeBox. I have just upgraded to the latest version of 6.2 tonight and I am using a SqueezeBox 1. I tried the following link
this link appeared earlier in this thread as a known working stream. SqueezeBox 1 appears to connect ok, according to the scrolling text but I get no audio. Help!
i have just tried this
and all I get is silence, but the text sccrolls across SqueezeBox 1 screen.
Tortio - were any of your problems seen using Softsqueeze rather than a real squeezebox? [I don't think this works in the current 6.2 builds]
norderney - when you enter the asx url in tune in, do you get a list of urls in the player's playlist. I found that only some of these play for me. For instance for KFOG, the last one seems to work for me. You probably want to try each one in turn to see what you get.
