View Full Version : Why itunes and slimserver
Hi
I have a simple question, why does the norm seem to be to use iTunes and SlimServer? What is the relationship, for example, why can't I just use SlimServer and do away with iTunes.

you can. I never use iTunes except for testing. I can't stand iTunes.
However, many feel that iTunes gives them exactly what they want for file
management, playlist management and user interface.
Slimserver simply reads in library data stored by iTunes, giving you the tag
data and playlists that you've created using iTunes. There are built in ways
to create playlists, as well as other Applications that also integrate with
slimserver, like MusicMagic and MoodLogic (both of which allow the creation of
live mixes from slimserver)

What kdf said - I never use iTunes, and I think that's a pretty common situation.
