Retagging WMA Lossless

I have about 300GB of WMA Lossless. I am using two ways to retag the files.

1) using WMP Library mode, I can batch retag quite easily and it's very fast. But it lacks more sophiscated functions...

2) using Tag&Rename. I love the diff functions Tag&Rename offers, but my, it's SO slow. I dont understand why there's such a huge speed difference. It seems to be that Tag&Rename actually rewrites the entire file when I make the smallest changes in the tag.

Does anyone else here use Tag&Rename? is there a way to configure it so that retagging WMA will be as quick as using WMP? Any other tools I can use?

I have no experience with WMA Lossless, but all the WMA tagging I've
done in the past was with Media Tagger:

It never seemed particularly slow to me, but I don't know your standards.
