View Full Version : Did 6.1b do away with the dedicated IE window for the UI?

When I open the Web interface for slimserver with 6.1, it opens in my default browser (Firefox). Is there any way to get back to the old dedicated IE window? Btw, I'm talking about the dedicated window, not just going to http://localhost:9000/ in IE.

Yes, it's true - the slim.exe app has been removed. Fortunately, I took a backup. All you need is to copy the slim.exe from a previous release.

Whoops, I meant slimserver.exe. slim.exe is the server, and slimserver.exe is the GUI app!

Not trying to be too critcal, but why?? Don't most people prefer a dedicated stripped down window instead of a cluttered personalized browser???

How does the saying go - if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

This has already been covered recently by the CTO of Slim Devices, so I'm not
going to retype it all.

basically, it was broke and was the cause of a lot of the calls to the support
group due to various problems that could not be resoved due to the limitations
of the browser engine.

I think the reason was that there were some problems with the dedicated windows app due to the active-X control that was available for displaying web pages. The fix was to remove the app.

One issue I think was that when minimised, the app doesn't refresh, so when restored, it reports out-of-date information.

Personally, I preferred that behaviour anyway. If I leave the app minimised to tray for ages, I don't need it refreshing in the background. Upon restoring after a long period of playing music, I simply refresh the now-playing frame. If I haven't been playing music, there's no need for the refresh anyway. It would have been nice to have the app detect the window restoration and therefore refresh automatically (potentially just the now-playing frame), but I don't know if that was possible.

Can you refer me to the thread? I did a search and couldn't find it.

Also, I'm surprised the old GUI caused so many issues. Mine used to freeze every once in a while, but overall, I've had way more issues in just a few days with the new version than I had in the old version over the last several months.

Plus, from a pure aesthetic standpoint, the old GUI was far more pleasing and professional as it at least gave the impression of an application vs. a Web site. Very poor decision imo.
