View Full Version : Recommended ripping software for windows?
EAC is not open source but it's still probably the best free secure ripper
out there.

Thanks. I've played with it a bit, but I'm not entirely familiar with
it yet. Does EAC (or any of the other free rippers for Windows) do
album normalization, or just track normalization?

What do you mean by that, Ken? Are you talking about the ID3 tags?
What does EAC do wrong with them?

I also use EAC/LAME and use the new LAME alt-preset-extreme setting
(VBR ~260kbps).
For detailed instructions on how to do it, visit www.chrismyden.com
and follow his eliteDAE links. Sorry - at work and the site is blocked
so I can't give you the exact link.
I set up several computers to do my ripping when I did my whole
collection. Depending on the scratches in the disk and the drive you
have, you can usually do one CD every 3-5 minutes, but I've seen some
that take 20+ minutes. Just read Myden's site and you'll know the best
way of doing it.

Sorry..just read the last few posts...
Myden et al suggests you turn normalization off. EAC does use the
freeDB database for ID3 tags and I've never had a problem with my
SliMP3 or Squeezebox showing the tags properly.
